Born-again actress Irene Milka, popularly known as Monica, for her role in Uganda’s hit series, Deception, has urged Christians to make the Word of God part of their daily lives.
Speaking during a conference at Praise Cathedral – Ntinda, a location in northeastern Kampala on Saturday, Irene Milka encouraged multitudes saying there is so much power in scripture, and that “our lives are transformed from the very core.”
Milka, who gave her life to Christ at a tender age, said she experienced rejection while growing up. Nevertheless, she thanks God for the conditions she went through.
Milka told the congregation that she joined Church at the age of 7, where she was groomed, and encouraged to read the bible. She started Scripture Union meetings at one of her former schools (Mariam High), motivating fellow students to rely on the Word.
“How often do you sit down and read the word of God. Do you have time with the Holy Spirit, or you simply do things according to your will? Are you using your own strength, or are you relying on the Holy Spirit?” she started her sermon.
“Most of the time, we children of God use our own understanding, and we forget the will of God. Don’t be carnally minded. Don’t be misled by your present circumstances. When we read the word of God, there is power. We need to build ourselves up in the word of God. We need to humble ourselves before God again. We need to let that fire rise up again within us. You cannot do this alone, you need the Holy Spirit to guide you through,” she said, quoting Deuteronomy 9:3 which says in part, ‘Know therefore this day, that the LORD your God is He who goes over before you as a devouring fire.’
Milka encouraged parents to expose their children to God’s Word while they are young. “The messages that they read from God’s word while they are young will help them when they go out into the world,” she said.
Born in 1989, Irene Milka started acting at the age of 7 while in Sunday School, and then went on to take part in stage plays which her school presented whenever there was an occasion at her school such as Parents’ Day.
Over time, she has become a people’s favorite, and was recognized to be one of Uganda’s ambassadors to the Arusha African Film Festival in 2014. Milka has also acted in movies directed by filmmaker and theater practitioner Akpor Otebele.
“If my mother had not raised me the way she did, I wouldn’t be what I am today. Who am I to be standing here, it’s not because I am a celebrity, that also I remind you, its the grace of God; for He lifts the needy from the ash heap, and seats them with princes,” she told the Church.
“I am standing here today because of the circumstances I went through while growing up. Even when I went to campus, and was a bit distracted by the things of the world, God drew me back. He knew us before we were in our mothers’ wombs. No matter what you are going through, God knows you,” she said. “Let us read the word of God. The Holy Spirit needs to be your friend.”
Milka urged that through reading the word of God, and embracing the Holy Spirit, one will be able to walk in God’s plan for their life.
“This is ministry, we are not playing with the people of God, we thus need to know what the will of God is. When you are in the house of God, mostly in the prophetic, the word of God has to be in you. When the man of God comes and declares a prophecy over you, the word of God has to be in you. The word of God has to work within you,” she said.
