Pr Jessica Kayanja was with her parents in exile when Mr. Kasole Bwerere started Kampala Parents School in Uganda.
When Tanzania and anti-Amin Ugandan forces invaded and toppled his regime, Jessica and her family returned from Zambia. She enrolled to continue with her studies at Kasole’s school.
“My parents, who were part of the liberation struggle to get Amin out of power, had been in exile like for 6 years. I had left in Primary one. When we came back, I din’t want to repeat any class. Mr. Kasole Bwerere.. put me on a catch up program because in Zambia it was a totally different syllabus. He [Kasole] assured me that I could make it… God used this man, I sat my PLE and was able to join Gayaza High school.” A jubilant Pr Jessica Kayanja told the Congregation at Miracle Centre Cathedral on Monday when she finally re-united with her Primary school headmaster during the 77 Days of Glory meeting.
Pr Jessica Kayanja said Mr Kasole is one of the most civilized men she knows.
“We learn foundations of principle. A spirit of excellence – boldness – the ability to express our selves, and for that we are forever grateful.” She added, noting that it is important to give credit where it is due.
Midway her speech, Pr Kayanja Robert brought forth an envelop containing 3 million shillings, and handed it to Mr Kasole.
“It is of 3 million… Thanking you, on behalf of so many students out there but, especially here, in Jesus name. Thank you for educating my wife.. she is touching the world. She always mentioned your name when we talked about foundation and education.” Pr Kayanja said.
The Church was left in shock when Mr Kasole revealed that the envelop Pastor Kayanja had given him is the only token of appreciation he has ever received his entire life for contributing to Uganda’s education sector.
“In my entire life, you are the first people to remember me. I don’t remember any other. I have even never gotten a medal for being an exemplary teacher. This is the first gift I have received where Ugandans are appreciating me for teaching students well. May the Lord bless you.” Mr Kasole said.
“Can you believe this…we are the first people to appreciate him.” Pr Kayanja reacted. “We need to appreciate people when they are still alive.”
“I thank God for what he enabled me to accomplish, it wasn’t by my own power or wisdom, but the holy spirit led me to teach Ugandans, who would become men and women to forefront progress of this country. I retired at teaching for 60 years. I now stay in Mubende, I put most of my time to prayer. I’m a Catholic man.” Kasole said.
The 82-year -old goes to Nairobi every month for medical statement due to some complication that developed within his leg related to the nerves.
“They feared that an operation at my age would result into something more fatal. So I have to take pain killers to be well.”
