KAMPALA – Apostle John Bunjo of Christian Restoration Ministries International has said for Uganda to have effective Church leaders, there is a need for Christians pursuing God’s call to ministry to understand the importance of having a mentor.
Apostle Bunjo said aspiring Pastors should seek out experienced mentors who can freely share what they personally know — and what they have learned to help with personal and spiritual matters, professional practices and pastoral formation.
Bunjo was speaking during the Annual Prayer Conference organised by Michael Kimuli, the vision bearer and senior pastor of Christian Discipleship Ministries Int. on Dec 12 in Kampala.
Apostle Bunjo used various biblical figures to reveal how their close association with mentors helped them understand how they should live and effectively serve the church.
They learned how to deal with the most difficult people and situations by observing their mentor’s lifestyle, Bunjo explained.
“Don’t go by yourself to start a Church. You must have a father. You must have a mentor,” he told listeners.
According to Exodus 2:11 – 7:7, Moses was a shepherd, in the desert, for 40 years. He went from being the prince of Egypt and a revolutionary with a dream to a nobody.
During those 40 years, Apostle Bunjo told congregants God was busy preparing Moses.
“God spent 40 years taking the Egypt-mentality out of Moses. He was also in bondage. He could not deliver people, until he was delivered.”
Bunjo described as effective Pastors who have patiently gone through training under a mentor, other than bible school.
“Your calling my start in a dream, but you have to go through the required process,” Bunjo said. “If you are going somewhere, who sent you? That is why demons are squeezing your church. Even if you have just started, pray that God will give you a Moses. Moses went through the wilderness 40 years.”
The Conference run under the theme; Turning Point.
