The highly anticipated collaboration between top Kenyan gospel musician, Bahati and Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo was officially released June 7.

Titled ‘Barua Kwa Mama’, the song is an appreciation of mothers.

Eddy Kenzo’s fans have gone wild over the singer’s new video however, in Kenya, the situation is utterly different.

Bahati’s fans, most of whom are Christians, took to social media soon after the release, criticizing him for collaborating with a secular artiste.

“Bahati, we need gospel songs please. Retrace back dear bro..am your fan..I feel you are drifting away.” One fan said, commenting on the video.

The new release continues to generate heated debate. Those in defense credit the gospel singer for creativity, an eye for the international audience and urge that it is evident that the message in the song is just to his best.

The audio has not (yet) pulled Christian radio station’s attention, although it seems to be gaining momentum with main steam media houses.

“’I’m four years old since God gave me the mantle to speak to the hearts of many through gospel music. Yes I achieved so when still young and learning from world’s greatest; before any achievement, you make mistakes which make you learn for God to prepare you for the big crowning. Above all what I’m grateful for [it] is God..” Bahati said in part as he released the video.

Bahati’s difficult childhood is probably one of the reasons why some have appreciated this song.

His music came as a breath of fresh air and when he released ‘Mama’ a tribute to his late mum and all mums around.

Kenyans could not handle the level of emotions he’d exposed them to, A Kenyan news daily said.

His mum died when he was only 7-year-old and his father was a no-show before he too passed on.

Bahati grew up in a children’s home in a slum but his music gave him a chance at a new life.

He has adopted three children from a home. He is educating them and giving them a life most accomplished, older men could only dream of for their children.
