Many Christians in Uganda and other East African countries are calling on governments to permit congregational worship again after weeks of lockdown to contain the coronavirus.
On Sunday, Dr Joseph Serwadda, the founder of Victory Christian Centre Church located in Ndeeba, observed that the past three months have been such a “trying time” for “everyone” in Uganda.
The presiding apostle of the born again faith was quick to acknowledge that government is under immense pressure from various stake holders to ease the lockdown on Churches.
“We have obeyed the rules and laws of this nation. But as you know, human beings have capacity to do stuff, but not for a long time. We have now ‘lost it’, as they say,” he started his sermon.
“Nothing is so boring and tiring as a COVID service. And we are tired of them,” he continued.
Dr Serwadda cited Luke 18 as he encouraged Christians to learn how to deal with delays. If God allows a delay, Dr Serwadda stated that one has to trust that He has a divine purpose for it.
“Luke 18 tells us about a widow who needed justice, and she was never given justice. The Bible says the judge who should have given her that justice did not fear God, and had no respect for human beings,” Dr Serwadda explained.
“There are things in this world against which we must break through. They stand in the way of life. They hinder progress and hamper growth,” he said. “Most of the time, the things that come against us are designed in certain ways to stop us from getting our blessing.”
He quoted Ephesians 6:12 which says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
“Are you facing a delay? Is there anything that has not come in its time? Check out what it is. Is it the devil causing the delay? We have power over satan. Are you hampered by natural things that can be handled? Those ones can be mitigated. Is it God causing the delay? If yes, He has a divine purpose for the delay, and will act in His time. You may be looking for a child, a job. You may be looking for a promotion or assignment. You want things to happen in your life. Find the source of your delay,” he said.
“We need to be constant and persistent in our prayers. There is no need to faint and grow weary to the point of abandoning what we started. What Jesus is saying is; keep praying and don’t give up. Keep looking to God for an answer. Paul said in Galatians 6:9, ‘And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.’,” he said.
Through Daniel 10:10, Dr Serwadda taught of demonic activity that delays a blessing. “For 21 days a princely spirit of the kingdom of Persia blocked an angel who was bringing a message to Daniel. Persia as a region had a spirit against it, just like any other nation,” he said.
