KAMPALA – Jubilation, praise and worship were the prevailing mood on 8 February when multitude of Ugandans flooded Kololo airstrip in Kampala to witness the finest tunes from legendary USA Christian worship leader and Pastor Don Moen.
A few minutes past 10pm, Don Moen took over from the event lead organiser, Isaac Rucci, who ministered in songs including ‘malibongwe’.
In a stimulating string of continuity, the internationally acclaimed father of five asked the crowd to sing along with him, noting that whatever problems they are going through cannot overpower God.
Don Moen’s humble start proved more than just an ice-breaker. The singer cited one scripture after the other when introducing his songs, including the mesmeric hit ‘God will make a way’.
Moen testified to God’s ability to solve seemingly impossible situations, saying he and his wife welcomed their first child after more than a decade of childlessness.
He was also quick to discard reports of his death and divorce circulating the internet.
“I am not divorced, I am married to the same wife for 45 years – we have five beautiful children and 7 grand children,” he explained.
“We were married 12 years before we could have children. If there is someone here tonight, couples that are still believing God for children – I have the faith to believe that God can do for you, what He did for us,” Don Moen said.
“If that is you, in the name of Jesus be healed. Lord, give them the desires of their hearts and fill their homes with the sound of laughing children. I believe if He did it for us, He can do it for you,” he prayed.
The crowd sang along heartily. As the show faded to a shutdown, the versatile artist held out a violin, played it with unique masterly and bowed out with a promise to return to the country.
The event was graced by several Ugandan gospel musicians, Pastors and political figures.
