Edwin Naijuka, leader of the Watoto Children’s Choir who arrived from the United Kingdom in March 2020 and tested positive for Covid-19, has testified to the healing power of prayer in his address to the media on Friday.

Edwin was discharged from Entebbe Hospital on April 20, 2020 after gaining fully recovery together with several members of his team.

“The words of encouragement I have is that God is in charge,” Edwin started his speech.

“It would not be possible for us to get to where we are – me and my team, and the rest of the people who have recovered – if it wasn’t for the prayer; the support that we have from the entire Watoto family,” he said. “It is all thanks to God for that.”

“We are also super-grateful to the entire front-line medical team that was looking after us, making sure that we were supported and taken care of,” he continued.

Watoto Church associate team leader Julius Rwotlonyo and Family Ministry Pastor Joshua Mugabi, used the occasion to offer the Ministry of Health (MoH) a donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from the Church in support of the fight against COVID-19.

The donation was received by the Minister of Health Jane Ruth Aceng and Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine.

“This will go a long way in protecting our health workers. Thank you Watoto Church for standing with us in prayer and in kind,” Minister Aceng said.

Elsewhere, 15 new Coronavirus cases were recorded on 22 May — bringing Uganda’s tally to 175. These were part of 2,106 samples that were tested for COVID-19 from the border points and the Uganda Virus Research Institute.

12 of the registered cases are truck drivers while 3 cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers, according to the Ministry of Health.
