It’s reported that businessman Bonny Katatumba succumbed to a combination of Asthma and Pneumonia at International Hospital Kampala.
The Pakistani Consul to Uganda died on 23rd February 2017, and is said to have undergone an unsuccessful operation Wednesday night.
His death was confirmed to media by daughter and musician Angella Katatumba.
Award winning gospel singer Coopy Bly has taken to social media Monday morning saying Bonny Katatumba was there for him, together with newly wed wife Annie Marie.
“This was you at our wedding recently just like you have always been there for us through everything. Always loving, happy, bubbly and so positive and encouraging, ” Coopy Bly said. “Can’t believe we laid you to rest last night! We shall miss you but definitely your legacy will always live on. Rest In Peace Uncle Bonnie.”
During the requiem mass held at Rubaga Cathedral on 25th February, 2017, Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, who represented President Yoweri Museveni described Katatumba as a true entrepreneur, asking Ugandans to emulate him.
Elsewhere, Angella Katatumba said that her father would not die in vain. She vowed that they would fight for his property, and that the family is sure they will win the case now before the court of appeal.
The late Bonny has been the owner of properties like Hotel Diplomat, Katatumba Academy, Katatumba Suites and Katatumba Resort Hotel among other properties.
He was appointed Pakistani Consul in Uganda in 1999 by former Pakstani leader, Perves Musharraf.
His service as a diplomat yielded results, according to Kassim Omar, the Chairman of Uganda Clearing Industry and Forwarding Association (UCIFA).
