Frank Malingumu Gashumba, chairman mali group of companies is known as a social activist, motivational speaker and entrepreneur, whose purpose in life is driven by Mahatma Gandhi’s quote, “I believe in self-empowerment. Be the change you want to see in the world”.
For so many Ugandans who are close friends with social media, Frank Gashumba is one popular reference on societal aspects such as morality, politics, preaching about marriage, career among others.
The Recent presidential polls conducted by Vision Group Ltd, put President Museveni in the lead with 71 percent, something that several Ugandans including Frank have trashed and branded as total falsehood.
The poll sparked tempers amidst readers and one case in point was observed in Mityana district where they set on fire The New Vision January 19, 2016.
The poll gave President Yoweri Museveni 71%, FDC presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye in second place with 19%, Go Forward’s Amama Mbabazi in third place with 6%, while Dr. Abed Bwanika is fourth with 1%.
Through his social media platform, Frank Gashumba justified his indisputable reaction to the poll where many alleged that his words were quite insensitive; emphasizing that he was raised in a purely conservative and Christian family where vulgar language was a taboo.
“What should we call a devil? Should we call him/her a Saint? You want Gashumba to call these vampires Jesus, if your behaviors are the opposite of what we expect you to be; we are going to answer you in the same currency. Martin Luther King used to words like ‘fools’ to draw the message across, in 2008 Barrack Obama used the same,” he wrote
He further added on to say that, “If you read the Bible, MARK 11 verse 15-17 what did Jesus do when he found out that people had turned the house of prayer into a dean of thieves, he caned them,…”
Mean while, a new opinion poll by Research World International (RWI) has placed incumbent President Yoweri Musaeveni in the lead with 51 percent followed by Forum for Democratic Change party presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye at 32 percent and ex-premier Amama Mbabazi at 12 percent.
The poll that was conducted between December 19, 2015 and January 10, 2016, involved 2,685 registered voters in 89 districts across the country. The respondents were asked on who they would support if the elections were held on the day the polls was carried out.
They were also asked on who they would choose between Yoweri Museveni, Kizza Besigye and Amama Mbabazi. According to the poll results, majority of the respondents said they would vote for Museveni because he has maintained peace and stability in the country.
