The solution being proposed by a new report that links climate change to Human Kind is “having fewer children.”
A study published his month by The Washington Times found that the most effective “lifestyle choice” for reducing personal greenhouse-gas emissions is having “one fewer child,” followed by living car-free, avoiding airline travel, and eating a plant-based diet.
The study analyzed the impact of 148 behaviors in 10 countries drawn from 39 sources, also citing a paper published in Environmental Research Letters.
More widespread strategies such as recycling, driving hybrid vehicles and switching to reusable shopping bags didn’t even come close to achieving the same carbon reduction, the study claims.
“We recognize these are deeply personal choices. But we can’t ignore the climate effect our lifestyle actually has,” Report co-author Kimberly Nicholas of Lund University in Sweden told Phys.org.
“It’s especially important for young people establishing lifelong patterns to be aware which choices have the biggest impact,” Ms. Nicholas said. “We hope this information sparks discussion and empowers individuals.”
The study also recommended that schools spread the word by promoting such “high-impact actions” to students in adolescence.
An analysis of 10 Canadian high school social science textbooks found that “[n]o textbook suggested having fewer children as a way to reduce emissions, and only two out of ten mentioned avoiding air travel.”
USA abortion activists have however criticized the solution by the report saying it is “anti-child”, aimed at supporting abortion.
“Man-made climate change is believed by, supposedly, 97 percent of scientists — that is, that human activity is what causes global warming/climate change… Perhaps this is a reflection of the abortion ethic. Perhaps that’s why a million abortions annually in America don’t seem to trouble them.” Dr. Jerry Newcombe, a key archivist of the D. James Kennedy Legacy Library and a Christian TV producer said in an article published by the Christian Post.
“This whole issue shows worldviews in conflict. The assumption is that catastrophic-climate-change-caused-by-human-activity is real. I don’t believe it. Nor do millions of other sane and well-educated Americans — including many scientists. However, since the elites who run the key academic and scientific institutions believe it, dissidents (regardless of how well qualified) are not tolerated. It’s Galileo all over again.” He said.
“Rather than more babies causing more problems in this world, by allegedly adding to our supposed climate change crisis, I agree with Solomon the Wise, when he said (in Psalm 127): “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.” Children are a blessing from God, not a curse to the earth.” He added.
