OPINION | By Dickson Kaliisa
Born again Churches have enjoyed tremendous growth and liberty to exercise faith under Museveni government.
While this is true and wonderful, the opportunity has been used well, but in a lot of ways their has been negligence, abuse, ignorance, lack of genuine unity and balance in many critical issues.
These issues are common in all organisations and other religions but I want to specifically address the Born-again churches because that is where I belong and continue to serve.
My personal walk as a Christian has taught me that getting better has a process with room for improvement. It requires that personal decision to make the desired changes.
The Born again Church in Uganda has tremendous opportunity to aggressively go after those areas that need improvement while it can. The biggest challenge has been internal but external forces are rising. While the political environment and will over the years has been better than any other time in Ugandan history, there is no promise that other regimes will treat you the same way.
The current political weather is very divisive and toxic, it so much threatens everything we hold dear as a nation .Born again churches are no exception. If the church is the Bible truth custodians, we must wake up and do everything we can to build accurately or else ….
Church leader must come together not only on the issues affecting the church but the nation as a whole. We all benefit from stability and peace with good and fair leadership. Standing on the side while the country is going in the wrong direction is not an option at all.
The president and his government, the opposition leadership and the country as a whole need your prayers but also need your counsel. Those with access to government leadership must use it to benefit the entire country.
Those that hate the progress of the Born again church will not spare any minute to infringe on your freedoms to suppress every right and progress gained in these few years.
It’s time to wake up, unite, fight a good fight of faith, engage leadership effectively and in way that builds the country. Fighting and attacking each other through media platforms doesn’t not help at all.
My only credentials for talking about this matter is not anything except that I am a follower of Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, the other credential is that I have been a victim to the problems in the church, made many mistakes too in the effort to Serve God, so, don’t write me off because we are in this together and we can do better.
Yes we can do better and can make positive contributions for the good of each country we call home.
I love you all and God bless you.
