A born-again Church in Entebbe has brought together a team of professional lawyers to offer free legal aid services to Christians whose families are struggling to cover costs.
Calvary Chapel Entebbe expanded its outreach programs to include the Christian Legal Aid Ministries where a free legal aid clinic was launched at the Church premises on 14 February, 2020, in collaboration with four Christian lawyers.
“As a church, God has added into us another ministry as a way to reach out to the people,” Calvary Chapel Entebbe said in an update.
Adding, “Our prayer is for the Christian Legal Aid Ministries to grow and reach out to the afflicted people of God in the islands and Uganda at large.”
The Church urged families to speak with the professional Christian lawyers namely; Esther Joyce Mwiine, Lydia Matte, Opolot Samuel and Ajalo Ruth about any legal issue including issues of land, family wrangles, conflict, child rights and others.
“I have been having many questions about land. I want to buy land, but again, what should be the procedure? For sure, I have been equipped on how to go about land affairs because today in Uganda, there are a lot of wrangles over land. People are fighting over land,” Mr Omoding Joseph, a beneficiary from the new Church program remarked.
“As a Church we are so happy and so blessed to have such a service come along, to help first and foremost the community, and even our Church members,” Pastor Isaac, who serves with Calvary Chapel Entebbe said.
In a recent report titled, ‘Making a Case for State Provision of Legal Aid in Uganda‘ revealed that close to 31 million Ugandans do not have adequate access to legal services.
Last year, Justice Remy Kasule appealed to the government to pass the Legal Aid bill into law saying the policy will enable indigent and poor Ugandans receive state funded legal services.
