For the average Ugandan, what’s a good time without some party vibes? For most, they’ve gladly embraced this culture as a way of life. A good time is often served under the umbrella of social gatherings where so much art is blended with a touch of music and dance.
Moving on to the Christian scene, there has been a growing gap in the recent years to rebrand this initiative within believers circles. For so long, being Born-again has been vaguely associated with all things dull and mystical. For many, it’s hard to believe one can be Born-again and still have a healthy balance of social fun and activity. Others have extended it to levels of extremism whereby anyone thought to be a believer and is seen participating in such is labelled as a prodigal or backslidden carnal man.
Such warped mindsets and limiting perspectives have been one of the major hindrances to the advancement of the creative arts on a Christian platform. The few that have chosen to stand with these artists, (whether budding or already established) still need the cooperate effort of other fellow believers to synergise the impact of empowering and showcasing such talent to the entertainment industry at large.
In a bid to offer a sound solution to this dilemma, it is with such a vision that the Dance like David (DLD) Party editions were born. This year’s edition is scheduled for the 2nd of November, 2019 at De’ Kabalaza, Plot 17 Bukoto St, Kampala, starting at 4pm.
“Our focus is not on staging a competitive combat against the worldly stage of talented artistes already out there. Rather, we simply seek to give audience to the gifts and talents tucked away among various individuals within the body of Christ. We are passionate about conveying a godly message to the world through expressive avenues of music and dance,” Ms Makula Shalom, the event’s PRO says.
Their intention is to have each Dance like David party embodied by a tangible theme of joyful freedom, brotherly love, healthy company and sound interactions.
“Through this, we hope to steadily put an end to the stigmatizing approach tagged onto the ‘believer’s way of having fun’. We desire that this be a culture of promoting unity of faith in the body of Christ. We’d like to believe that there’s no harm in a family praying together, and seeking to also play together,” she adds.
“A little fun and play never dulled the Spirit in a believer any day. And this is what we hope everyone gets as a take home from the event that day – that life as a believer isn’t all caged up and moody with stringent rules. It’s okay to loosen up and dance to the music whenever you get a chance,” Makula emphasizes. “In this year’s DLD Party 2019 edition, we’ll be sure to deliver nothing short of that!”
Organizers say there will be a great fusion of different arts and talents from the Gospel entertainment scene. 5 Dj turning tables will be placed out playing some of Uganda’s favorite gospel tunes – hit after hit.
The event will include gospel stars Holy Keane, Barna, hype man Paul Selah, DJ More UG and DJ Victor 256 among others. Entrance is Ush10,000.
