Choose wisely come election day – Gary Skinner

Choice: It's a matter of life or death

Pastor Gary Skinner has encouraged Christians to “choose wisely” in the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking at Watoto Church in Kampala, Pastor Gary explained that Ugandans will “make choices in the next election” that will determine what the country will be like for several years to come.

“When election comes, choose wisely,” he said, quickly noting that the Church has no intentions of endorsing a particular political candidate.

“We’re not here for political purposes. We won’t ever endorse a candidate. We will endorse truth, will endorse integrity, will endorse non corruption, all the things that a nation needs,” he said.

Pastor Gary’s sermon was hinged on helping Christians make right choices in life and overcome the “victim mentality.”

“You have in front of you life, or death. You have in front of you blessings or curses, and it doesn’t matter what the previous generations did. God is saying to you, if you trust him, you can choose life and you can choose blessing,” he said.

“Your life right now is the sum total of the decisions that you made yesterday,” he added.

“Some of us sit in this room and say, ‘no, my life is the result of decisions that other people made.’ That’s a victim mentality, and God loves to take people who might have had bad circumstances and turn them around for His glory so that He can tell a story of how He changes people’s lives,” Pastor Gary said.

The preacher observed that he is thankful for what God has allowed him to do. Beyond that, he said he is excited about what God is about to do through the young generation once it begins to make the right choices.

“God is going to do something in Africa that the whole world is going to know about. It’s going to be miraculous. God is going to do signs, miracles and wonders. He’s going to turn around nations. He’s going to unleash economic power and natural resources, but the biggest resource that he’s going to release is of young people like you who’ve made up their minds that they’re not going to live like the generations before them, that did not live the way that they should,” he said.

“That is why I’m here in Uganda. I’m not here to build a big church, and just go through the motions of having church. You are made in the image of God with unlimited potential to do anything that you want to do. God is going to turn Africa around if the continent will make up its mind to live God’s way,” he continued. “I’m not here to be a big important Pastor, I’m here to raise up other big important pastors. I’m here to raise up other people who are going to do something significant.”

Gary noted that he has been able to accomplish so much in life because he decided to honor Jesus with his life.

“All of us hope for a better future, however it’s not going to get better until we begin to make some conscious choices, until we begin to choose properly,” he said.

“God didn’t make us robots. He gave us a free will. He gave us the ability to choose. That’s the way God works. He will never force anyone to go to heaven. He will never force anyone to go to hell. If you end up in hell, it will be because of the choices you made. God has done everything in his power to give you an opportunity to go to heaven. Your sin should send you to hell, but he loves you so much. He sent Jesus down to die on the cross for you. And you have to choose,” he said.
