100 Muslims gave their lives to Jesus Christ during a gospel outreach and missions program to families near the compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, where Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed in 2011.
According to Mission Network News (MNN), the initiative was spearheaded by nonprofit organisation Mission Cry, which exists to evangelize the world by distributing free Bibles and Christian literature to spiritually-needy people.
The organisation shared the gospel of Jesus Christ and gave 2,000 Bibles to people in 500 homes around the site.
Jason Woolford, the Executive Director of Mission Cry told press the spirit-led initiative was conducted together with Pakistan missionary teams.
During the outreach, MNN reports that military in the area came into the compound and told the Mission Cry partners they needed to stop praying, as they were holding hands and praying. “They stopped, but they continued to pray, walked that entire property, and the military left them alone,” MNN reported.
Jason Woolford said, “We have 100 Muslims outside of the compound who’ve given their life to the Lord Jesus. We had one woman that looked at the Bible (she had never seen a Bible in her life) and said, ‘I don’t know what God is in this book. But the one that I’m serving is false.’ And she ended up giving her life to the Lord.”
Many of these people had never been able to own a Quran, so receiving a Bible was a special experience, Woolford told MNN.
Supporting house churches
Mission Cry partners also ministered along the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Mr Woolford said, “Some of the underground churches that are in that area don’t have the ability to have Bibles for their people, for our brothers and sisters. And so we’ve been able to encourage them and get them the Word of God while they’ve been having a home church or secret meetings. Especially near the borders, in Chaman and Quetta.”
Watch a video talking more about this mission here.
It includes interviews with Pakistani Christians who participated. Woolford said, “Two boys on the compound gave their life to the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s what the video details.”
Who is Osama bin Laden?
Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden (March 10, 1957 – May 2, 2011), was a founder of the pan-Islamic militant organization al-Qaeda.
He is most well known for his role in masterminding the September 11 attacks, which resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people and prompted the United States, on the orders of President George W. Bush, to initiate the “War on Terror” and the subsequent War in Afghanistan.
Reports show that Bin Laden viewed Jews and Christians as enemies of Islam; he routinely referred to them as “infidels” (and occasionally as polytheists), expressing loathing for them as people.
