The number of Ugandans who engaged with God’s Word reached new heights this year, the YouVersion Bible App reveals.

In a report published this week, YouVersion said there was a 51 percent increase in Bible engagement within the country in 2019 compared to last year.

The report placed Uganda in the 8th position among countries with the greatest increase in Bible engagement during 2019. Algeria took the first place having registered a 261% increase. In the second position was Chad (116%) followed by Poland (75%).

Today, YouVersion has 400 million downloads, up from 330 million in July 2018.

Leaders at Oklahoma-based Life.Church developed and launched the popular app in July 2008. When Apple launched its app store, YouVersion was one of the first 200 free apps available — and the only Bible app, by then.

After seeing 83,000 installs of the Bible App in the first three days, it went on to reach 10 million installs in 2010, 50 million installs in 2012, and 100 million installs in 2013. The trend went on.

“Our desire is to help people grow in their relationship with God by encouraging them to read the Bible and seek Him every day,” said YouVersion Founder Bobby Gruenewald in a statement. “We’re encouraged to see so many people turning to the Bible in response to their worries, remembering what God has done in their lives, and choosing to trust in His faithfulness.”

“What we are seeing in global engagement is exciting to us because with every verse highlighted, Plan day completed, or audio chapter listened to, that’s a person who is being transformed by knowing God more intimately through spending time in the Bible,” said Gruenewald. “We’re humbled by the opportunity to see lives changed in every country around the world.”
