Apostle John Bunjo of Christian Restoration Ministries International has urged that one of the major challenges facing the church today is Bible interpretation.
He revealed on Saturday that is crucial for Church leaders to carefully interpret scripture to determine the intended meaning rather than forcing ideas into the text.
Apostle John Bunjo stated that many leaders “just enter ministry because they have a passion.”
“There are certain things that you need to know, for example, how to interpret the bible in relation to other scriptures around it,” Apostle John Bunjo said.
The Preacher was responding to comments on marriage vows made by well-known Pastor Aloysius Bujjingo of House of Prayer Ministries International.
Contrary to Pastor Bujjinjo who purported that it is not in accordance with the Bible for couples to say “until death do us part” in marriage vows, Ap Bunjo said a wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives.
“That’s made blatantly clear in Romans 7, which states “[By law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him,”” he said.
Citing Genesis 2, Ap Bunjo explained that marriage unites husband and wife to form “one flesh”, and that here on earth, spouses are called to reflect in their marital union the love between Christ and His Church.
“At the beginning the Creator “made them male and female,” and said, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” So they are no longer two, but one flesh,” he said.
Apostle Bunjo put major emphasis on the definition of ‘cleave’, a unique joining of two people into one entity.
The issue of marriage is an issue of agreement or covenant, Apostle Bunjo said.
He urged that Pastor Bujjingo’s statements on marriage vows “qualify him [Bujjingo] to be a Muslim.”
“I was a Muslim. I was allowed to hire and fire. Allah had no problem with it, as long as I could feed them, and had enough strength. In Islam marrying more than one wife is not sinning. All this is different from God of the bible,” he said, quoting Malachi 2:13-15.
The scripture reads:
“Another thing you do: You flood the Lord’s altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer looks with favor on your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands. 14 You ask, “Why?” It is because the Lord is the witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant. 15 Has not the one God made you? You belong to him in body and spirit. And what does the one God seek? Godly offspring. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth.”
