Amos Masaba Wekesa, founder of one of the largest tourist operations in East Africa (EA), Great Lakes Safaris and Uganda Lodges Limited will share his success story with multitudes expected to attend the Red Sofa Sessions.

The monthly gathering aimed at creating a platform for interaction and networking features several distinguished speakers who have excelled in different fields of work including; business, leadership, pastoral ministry, music among others.

Wekesa founded Great Lakes Safaris Limited in 2001 with the intention of improving the quality of tour operations in Uganda and the Great Lakes region of Africa.

14 years later, it has become one of East Africa’s leading tour companies.

He has made millions and become one of the go-to Ugandan tour guides with a company providing 180 jobs to the local economy.

Wekesa’s success story of turning from a smuggler to a billionaire safari king has attracted both national and international media, thus introducing him to clients across the world ready to pay prolifically to experience the splendor of Uganda.

“I came from a very extremely impoverished home. I did not go to school until the age of ten when I was taken up by the Salvation Army, who paid my school fees. I didn’t even like school, so I didn’t go to university. It’s been a long walk. I came from being a sweeper earning $10 a month in 1997, then my second job was as an office messenger, earning $15. Then I became a tour guide, earning a dollar a day. In 2001 I set up this company and the rest is history.”  He told The Report Company.

“99% of the people that surrounded were telling me ‘You can’t succeed. You don’t have a background of business.’ But I knew in my heart that you know what, I think God has given me this opportunity and tried me out, and I’m going to make sure I succeed in this thing.” He added.

This month’s edition is scheduled for 31st March, 2017 at Garden City roof top.

The event will run under theme “Against All Odds”, entry is 20,000/= It will feature other speakers including Peter Mukibi, Creative director Addmaya, and musicians Solome Basuuta, Abaasa Rwemereza.
