Uganda joined the rest of the World to celebrate the International Labour Day yesterday.

President Museveni graced the celebrtations amid heavy military deployment at Duhaga Grounds in Hoima District, under the Theme: “Strengthening Uganda’s competitiveness for sustainable job creation and inclusive growth,”

It was on this occasion that the President awarded medals to 419 civilians, soldiers, civil servants, religious leaders and activists for their commendable service to society.

He said that the government has created a good atmosphere for investors and tourists who he said are the main job creators in the country.

He also said that the country’s industrial sector has increased from 2,800 in 2015 to 3,100 in 2016, employing about 500,000 people. In the hospitality sector, he said that we have about 3,475 hotels employing over 600,000 Ugandans.

Bringing the updates to his Facebook audience, the President further disclosed that he had informed the gathering at Hoima that the NRM jobs-creation plan is through modernising four major sectors; Agriculture, industrialisation, ICT and the services sectors.

“And this excludes other sectors like transport, banking etc. Therefore the way to get jobs is to attract industries and hotels among others. Those who don’t know how development happens, this is how its done,” he stated, “Those claiming that government has done nothing are like the people that the bible talks about in the book of Prophet Jeremiah 5:21,”

The bible says in the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 5:21, “Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear,”

According to United Democratic Ugandans, an umbrella organisation that aims to effect regime change and restore democracy, with a professional eye, it is difficult to see what NRM government has done right. However, it is very easy to see what it has done wrong.

“The costs have by far exceeded the benefits, raising serious questions about how long Ugandans should sustain NRM in power. So far, surrogates for the government have failed to convince the public. That they have failed comes through when asked to provide success stories. They don’t even know how to successfully attack their opponents, ending up embarrassing themselves when asked to substantiate their allegations. Let us illustrate what has gone wrong,” the  organisation states.

His comments have also come in at a time when FDC members in Kabarole District insist they will beginning May 5th, join other Ugandans in peaceful party demonstrations to show dissatisfaction against the manner in which President Museveni won the February 18 election.

“We are, however, going to deal with factors that delay/hamper industrialisation. Those who frustrate investors are going to be penalised.  I congratulate the workers on this day,” the President concluded his remarks
