As sources indicate, the above caution was made on Tuesday evening during a meeting with media house managers in Kampala, which was organized by Eng Badru Kiggundu’s Electoral Commission.
With a few discrepancies still surrounding the stated figure of 15,297,197 total registered voters, the elections are to be supervised by the Electoral commission and it is the only body that reserves the right to make the final announcement.
UCC has vowed to invoke all its constitutionally bestowed authority to reprimand media houses, mainly electronic media that shall be involved in breach of the set laws and guidelines to be followed during the coming general elections.
“As the regulator of the communications sector, UCC shall continue to provide regulatory oversight based on the clear principles of transparency, accountability and fairness. Currently we have close to 250 radio stations spread throughout the country and 30 TV stations providing timely information to the people,” Fred stated.
“The Commission shall without hesitation invoke its regulatory powers to sanction non compliant stations in accordance with the law.”
