In seasons like this we need the Word of God. We need to be fed from the Master’s table, and hear a ‘thus saith the Lord.’
When we were beginning this year, everybody had high hopes and expectations. According to the plannings of man, everybody projected that the year was going to be the best out of all the years they have lived.
Everybody had dreams, visions, plans and programs until this unexpected storm (COVID-19) –came up, and cut across, from the first world countries to the third world countries. It has evolved, and held men in grips – from leaders to presidents to societies and departments – all across the world. People have been both infected and affected. The programs and sequences of living have been interrupted. With all this in mind, people are beginning to think otherwise.
When you study the news reported globally, you will notice that some people are contemplating suicide; others are selling off their commodities. In Uganda, people are shifting from the urban to the country side. You realize that the education system has been interrupted. On the other hard, domestic violence has multiplied in certain areas. Why? Because of the heavy pressures of life. People are succumbing to certain things and certain measures. Others are doing things that are self subjective. When they look at the future, they don’t see a ray of hope.
Amid all this frustration and pain, we need to get a message from the Lord.
In the book of John chapter 9, when Jesus heals the man born blind, he says that “as long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.
In the night seasons of our lives, everybody is expected to relax and wait for the break of a new day. We are going through a night season as the entire global village. As we are crossing through the night season, one thing you should keep at the back of your mind is that the plans and the programs of God are still constant.
Economies of nations are coming down, but the economy of heaven is not going down. There is no inflation in the economy of heaven. Someone will ask me, ‘pastor, if there is no financial trouble there, why are we facing it here?’. We all should understand that Heaven has dynamics of operation. We operate in times, seasons, space and zones, but heaven has an eternal family with God as the Father, in His sovereignty He sustains the power to supply to all creatures according to their desire and request.
Psalms 145:15 says, ‘The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.’
Putting the human race aside, let us look at the animals in the jungle, the reptiles in the field, the fish family: The eyes of all look to God for provision. He provides food for the unborn. He provides life to the plants.
The proceeding verse:16, says, ‘Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.’ Meaning, everything that is animate, that has life, God has to open His hands to satisfy them. Ladies and gentlemen, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the World Bank, may have a financial structure that is bent, but heaven has never run out of supply.
In Numbers: 11:4-6, when Moses was moving with the children of Israel in the desert, there came a time when, the bible says:
“.. the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!”
For 40 years they were accustomed to the diet of Egypt. They were accustomed to cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. They were slaved and married to the diet of the land. In the wilderness, there was nothing that resembles their past. They were on a new journey, feeding on a diet contrary to the one they had in Egypt.
Ladies and gentlemen, whenever God is taking you to a new place, via a new avenue, expect everything to be new. God was feeding them on mánna – literally meaning, “What is it?” in Hebrew.
God would wake them up every morning with “What is it?”. It was a surprise meal. God did not bring it in their houses. They had to open their houses to fetch it. The only word they could name it was mánna.
Time came when they were tired of the manna and wanted something fresh. They wanted to return to the Egyptian diet. They complained to Moses, who in turn approached God.
Numbers 11:13 says;
“He asked the Lord, …”Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’”
For Moses, it was not possible for God to give them meat.
He thought there was no way possibility could sledge in. Moses was in a conundrum – faced with the weight of the pressures of the people he was leading, and his uncertainty of the abilities of God. Yes, he had seen God writing on tablets, parting the Red Sea, killing firstborn sons of the Egyptians. He felt faced with a question that does not have a track record of a past.
However, in His response, God said:
“Tell the people: ‘Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, when you will eat meat. The Lord heard you when you wailed, “If only we had meat to eat! We were better off in Egypt!” (Numbers 11:18)
Moses was facing God with the frustration, misery, debilitation, confusion of the congregation.
But Moses said, “Here I am among six hundred thousand men on foot, and you say, ‘I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!’ Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them?” (Numbers 11-21-22)
Ladies and gentlemen, God is the creator. His sovereign authority sustains anything, anywhere.
“The Lord answered Moses, “Is the Lord’s arm too short? Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you.” (Numbers 11:23)
God has the power to change anything to something. Your situation right now is ugly, but allow God to be in the centre. Let your demand and desire be taken to God. Lift your eyes unto God. They that look unto Him are not ashamed.
God does not rely on the money in the bank. He does not rely on what the government can do. He is banking on the fullness of authority, the abundance of His name, the abundance of His supply. In Him there is power. In Him there is no failure.
