Knowing God makes all the difference

Pastor Robert Ssesanga on why spiritual growth is important to a Christian.

By Robert Ssesanga

Have you ever thought deeply about the God you have believed?  Do you really have a revelation of His character, attributes and nature?  Many Christians take it for granted that they know God well, yet they haven’t grasped a working knowledge of His nature and ways.  This is the knowledge that permeates your thinking, determines your action and influences your expectations.

Paul said; “I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” 2 Timothy 1:12.

There is an excellence of the knowledge of God that every believer needs to come to; it far supersedes anything else in the world. Paul said that his former accomplishments when he was highly esteemed among the religious folk, was rubbish in comparison to this knowledge (Philippians 3:8).

I want to show you clear, simple and yet profound examples of our God.

He is supernatural, He loves us all, yet He knows us individually. He knows us so well; He knows your name, your address and He alone knows how to provide what you need. When you think deeply about His almighty power displayed in ages past and presently in different places, you can’t help but exclaim; ‘What a mighty God I serve!’ This will also give you the confidence to face any challenge; rest assured that your God is greater than any opposition.

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”  1 John 4:4.

God is not only greater in comparison, He is the greatest; incomparable to any.  Many times during prayer it might seem like you are speaking into the air, however, God is hearing you and He will grant your requests.  In a very supernatural and divinely orchestrated move, He connects you to the right people, brings you the provision amazingly, removes sickness miraculously and protects you from all harm.  Release your faith in the supernatural power, provision and protection of God in all circumstances.

This is one of the ways He did it before.

“There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!” And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?” So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter. He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. He will tell you what you must do.” Acts 10:1-6.

Look at this closely; Cornelius was in Caesarea praying devotedly and God sent an angel to him. He was told of how the answer was now given in an amazing way; he was to send men to Joppa-another city, send for Simon Peter who was lodging with Simon the tanner. God never confused the two Simons; one was the host and the other was the guest, but He sent them to the guest. Think about the clarity of instruction and how detailed this was, isn’t God supernatural? God was so specific with the names of cities, people and their vocation, all for the sake of bringing the answer to his people. Hallelujah!! Think about this deeply and be confident that God knows your details inside out and He will use them to bring you help, uphold you and lead you on a glorious path. That is why we need to be like Paul and say, confidently; ‘I know whom I have believed’, regardless of the circumstances.

Paul himself experienced a miraculous conversion, but I will emphasize the events that followed.

“Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.”   So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying.   And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.”  And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”   Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.. .” Acts 9:10-12, 17-18.

Just like in the story of Cornelius, God appeared to Ananias of Damascus in a vision.  The instructions given were so specific; he was given Saul’s address, go to the street called Straight; God knows your street name and number.  At the house of Judas ask for Saul of Tarsus, you will find him praying.  Saul who later changed his name to Paul was from Tarsus, hosted by Judas and He was praying!!  This is enough to let you know that God knows everything about you at any given time.  While praying God gave a vision to Saul of a man called Ananias coming in and laying hands on him to receive sight after being blinded by the light from heaven!  So now God is talking to Ananias to put all the pieces together.  What a great God we have believed.  When Ananias set off, the miraculous conversion was completed supernaturally.

Friend, let your faith, hope and trust in God be immovable and rock solid.  He knows your name, your address-street and house number, your vocation, your needs and how to bring you the answer so much so that He always puts the pieces together to supernaturally help you.  He sent Elijah to the widow of Zarepath, caused Samuel to meet Saul when he was looking for Asses, took David to the battle front in the name of taking food for the brothers, yet it was to slay Goliath.  Our God is an awesome God, He reigns from Heaven above with Wisdom, Power and Love, Our God is an awesome God. Today do not be moved, you will not be ashamed, know whom you have believed.
