Popular Christian music band, Hillsong Worship was the only Australian act able to win an award at the 2018 Grammy Awards in New York on Sunday.
They received the award in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song category for their track ‘What A Beautiful Name’.
Brooke Ligertwood, Ben Fielding – both Hillsong Worship members – accepted the award on behalf of the group and described the win as “an absolutely incredible honour”.
“No matter how far or close you feel to God or no matter how great the distance his love is greater, his name is more powerful, more wonderful, more beautiful than any other,” Fielding said.
‘What A Beautiful Name’ was written and led by Brooke Ligertwood and co-written with Ben Fielding. The “genre-smashing single” contributed to Hillsong being named Billboard’s Top Christian Artist of 2017.
“What a Beautiful Name” was released on 6 January 2017, as the lead single from their 25th live album, Let There Be Light (2016).
The win came after Australia’s other Grammy hopefuls missed out on awards.
Sia was nominated in the Best Song Written For Visual Media category for her tune ‘Never Give Up’ from the 2016 movie Lion, but lost to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from Disney’s Moana: The Songs.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds were nominated for Best Music Film for One More Time With Feeling and Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package, but didn’t score a win either.
Sydney trio Mansionair were also nominated in the Best Dance Recording category for their work on US duo Odesza’s track ‘Line Of Sight’, but the award went to LCD Soundsystem for their song ‘Tonite’.
