Pastor Wilson Bugembe joined the rest of the world to mark the 6th International Day for Street Children that took place this week, 12th April 2016.
This day was launched on 12th April 2011, to give a louder voice to the millions of street children all around the world so their rights cannot be ignored.
“I was humbled to be the Chief walker together with the Senior Commissioner of Police Hadijjah Namutebi.” He said. “Today, those 2 street kids that I was holding in my hands during the matching came to church by surprise. They want to go back to school. Hallelujah!”
Bugembe was orphaned at an early age that saw him live part of his life on the streets. He was able to attend school up to university, where he studied for only one semester and dropped out.
He started singing professionally when he was 19 years old. He release his first album “Yellow”, that narrated the ordeal of his street life.
According to Global Dimension, nearly all countries (except the United States) have signed and ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and have a legal obligation to work towards ensuring that all children’s rights are integrated into national law.
It is universally recognised that all children should have these rights realised; however many government policies and practices still do not include street children, says the UK based charity which promotes global learning, encouraging teachers and other educators bring a global dimension to their work.
