A recent report by the World Prison brief revealed that Uganda has second-most overcrowded jails in Africa.
Chapter Four Uganda, an NGO that advocates for human rights, added that most of the prisoners are pre-trial detainees, and that they are “held in blatant violation of the right to liberty & fair trials.”
A team comprised of staff and listeners to Christian radio station 104.1 Power FM is set to hit the road once again this year to meet with prison inmates from different backgrounds and with different spiritual needs.
This initiative under the theme ‘Never too far’ will see the radio station carry on the legacy of Love from Jesus’ actions ahead of Easter.
“We have been for the last nine years through our radio station 104.1 Power FM reaching out to those in need of love and support in prison,” Mrs Becky Katagaya, one of the station show hosts said in a video.
“We have seen over 400 inmates give their lives to Jesus,” she added.
On Saturday, 13th April the station will visit inmates at Luzira upper prison, and later (23rd May, 2019) Gulu main prison.
The station believes it’s never too late to share the Gospel, and no one is ever too far gone to be embraced by the loving, life-changing arms of God Himself.
On top of sharing Christ, the station will distribute hygiene products, food, sports regalia among other items.
During their visit to Kigo prison back in 2011, the then deputy officer in-charge, Bosco Oburu, admitted: “This is the best day as an officer in-charge; seeing these prisoners accept Jesus and willing to become better people is a sign that we are making progress.”
