Three 104.1 Power FM journalists are part of 80, who have been shortlisted for the African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME) awards.

Solomon Lubambula, Anita Muwanguzi and Joan Akello will join other nominated journalists from different outstanding media houses at an event on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala where this year’s winners will be announced.

The three have been credited for exceptional journalism in categories; Health and National news – Broadcast.

ACME reports that one hundred eighty six journalists from media outlets across Uganda participated in the 2017 competition, a 25 per cent increase over the previous year.

The evaluation for final accolades has been done by a panel of 16 judges. The Winner from each category will receive a Shs2.5m cash prize, a plaque and a certificate.

It is also reported that the first runner-up will get a certificate and a cash prize of Shs1m, and where there is a tie, the prize money will be shared accordingly.

23 have been shortlisted from New Vision, 29 from Nation Media Group among other media houses that operate on-line, broadcast and print.

Notably, Solomon Lubambula and Anitah Muwanguzi were shortlisted in 2016. Andrew Arinaitwe was shortlisted from Channel 44 the same year.

According to the organizers [ACME],  The Uganda National Journalism Awards are presented annually to reward these journalists who work tirelessly, often in the face of great difficulty, political pressure and financial constraints.

Dr Louis Kasekende, the deputy governor of Bank of Uganda, will be the chief guest at the awarding ceremony.
