Residents of Nakazadde village, Lugazi central division in Buikwe district have told of their shock after the body of a 10-year-old mauled and killed by stray dogs was found on Wednesday night.
Arthur Kizza on his way home from church when a pack of stray dogs pounced on him and bit him to death. The boy’s head and body bore severe scratch marks.
Locals rushed to the scene on hearing the noise but were to late as they found the boy dead.
Lugazi Cathedral leaders where Arthur had spent the day told New Vision that he was found of the church, which caused the clerics to teat him as their won.
Expressing shock over the incident, Fr Ignatius Kimbowa said: “They will forever remember him for coming to church very early in the morning for prayers,”
Arthur parents, Gerald Kanyiri and Justine Nabawanuka said they were shocked when neighbors called them that their son had been attacked by dogs, quickly noting that residents tried to hunt for the dogs in vain.
Responding to the above events, a one Martin Kiiza told the state aided media outlet that government should design strategic programmes of vaccinating all dogs and other pets. He added that state officials should enact ordinances to control the ownership of pets within their localities.
“I also suggest that plans to kill stray dogs be implemented. We must take serious action to save the general public, especially children and women who have fallen prey of the dogs. The anti-rabies vaccine must be made available and affordable to all in need,” he added.
