Tuesday morning brought a wave of shock on social media as news circulated throughout the country that grenades were tossed into the compound of renowned politician and singer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine.

Bobi Wine, who serves as the member of parliament representing Kyaddondo East constituency in Wakiso District revealed that unidentified people for the second time in two days threw grenades at his house in Magere, damaging property when they exploded however, no one was hurt.

“I have been receiving death threats on an almost daily basis. I have also been advised by some friends who know more than I know that I should be very careful what I eat or drink, how I drive and from where, whom I meet, even who touches me while I go to Parliament,” Bobi wrote on his facebook page.

Bobi Wine pinned the horrific attacks to opposing the removal of age limits in the Constitution on Uganda. These are cowardly acts which must be condemned by all people of good conscience, he said.

In the wake of the violence, many Christians have responded through social media and other ways with prayers and heartfelt cries to God.

Many have used Isaiah 54:17 to assure the singer that he is under God’s protection and that no weapon will prevail against him.

Facebook user Nansamba Momo Ray wrote: “Totally disturbed by this, but we pray for God’s divine grace to cover you and the whole family  because no weapon formed against us shall prosper.”

Patrick Mukasa Bobi said: “I’m telling you this my dear brother, God gave you to us for the reasons, you are like moses to the people of Israel the living God we pray will give you protection. If God planned that you will die for you country don’t fear to fill full what God sent you to do and am assuring you that all ugandan are behind you and remember the voice of the people is the voice of God. Just trust in God…long live Bobi wine may God cover you with the blood of Jesus Christ with all your family. Amen.”

Sarajoy Bakanansa said: “God will protect you because you are the next president of Uganda. What God has decided no man will change that.”

“We are praying for you and your family’s protection my dear Bobi. May Jehovah God’s wrath rise against those who’ve threatened to hurt you and your family. I decree right now in the Name of Jesus Christ that as surely as you’ve chosen to stand on the side of truth, “no weapon formed against you shall prosper and may every tongue that rises up against you in judgement be condemned” in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ amen,” Gloria Kisembo wrote.

Elsewhere, UG Christian News learnt that a similar incident was witnessed at Hon Allan Ssewanyana’s home.

State official Ofwono Opondo who is the executive director of Uganda Media Centre responded to the grenade attacks saying, “Flash bang grenades at opposition MPs’ residences could be own scare tactics to frame government.”

“Flash bang grenades are used for training purposes, not harmful. Some opposition elements could have acquired them.” He added.
