Wilson Bugembe is now the Ambassador of World Vision, a not-for-profit organization that seeks to address causes and effects of poverty through development, relief and advocacy.

His appointment follows a special visit by Mr Gilbert Kamanga, the country director of world vision Uganda on Thursday.

“Guess who came to our office. Mr Gilbert Kamanga country director of world vision Uganda, what a humble and smart gentleman. Am humbled by the request to be an ambassador of world vision,” he said through a Facebook post.

Bugembe says that this is an organization that he has always admired for their great work all over the world and here at home, “Can’t wait to serve . We are humbled!”

Having lost his parents to AIDS, Bugembe, a former street child was adopted by a Good Samaritan, the late Mbogo, who paid for his education until he started singing.

He commenced professional music when he was 19 years old, later releasing his maiden album, Yellow, is a story about his personal life experience.

The World Vision Uganda opportunity has found the “Njagala Kumanya” hit singer already taking care of several street and orphaned children at his home and the church premises.

World Vision Uganda started in 1986 to offer relief and resettlement packages and to help reconstruct districts in central Uganda ravaged by the 1981-1986 war and currently serves in 41 districts where it operates 53 Area Development Programmes (ADPs).

It has spearheaded the first Tumaini Awards organised in partnership with ANPPCAN Uganda Chapter, Child Fund, Compassion International, Save the Children and Uganda Rights NGO Network. 25 Winners (adults and children) were awarded cash and non- cash items worth 50 Million shillings ($20,000 US dollars).

The objectives of the awards were to generate increased community awareness around children’s rights and issues, honour those who deserve to be recognized for their work with children, showcase philanthropic child-focused work of partners and sponsors, and inspire others to work harder to improve the lives of children in Uganda.
