Ugandans are yet to decide who is who when it comes to HipHop music.
The inaugural UG Hip-Hop Awards announced this week that they are to officially open doors for fans to vote for their favourite HipHop artists from those shortlisted across the country. This list was submitted by a Panel that adjudicates majority the categories in the awards, with a few exceptions.
The award organisers, Tribe UG, a hip hop website run by two entrepreneurs; Felix Byaruhanga and Mubanza Haggai, say that this arrangement follows the need to honor acts, individuals and brands, who contribute to the enrichment of the genre through the different elements of hip-hop in Uganda.
Peter Twongeire Mugarura aka DJ Twonjex, host of the Beat Street on Power FM is among the nominees in the ‘Deejay Of The Year’ category.
Elsewhere, Ruyonga’s recently launched gospel album, Glory Fire has been nominated in the ‘Album Of The Year’ category.

We have received an immense support from all stakeholders of the industry.” Tribe UG said “After a long deliberation by the judges we’ve been able to release the nominees of the inaugural UG Hip-Hop Awards.The judges’ panel shortlisted the nominees who qualified for this years UG Hip-hop Awards, and they are as follows.”
