Dr Godfrey Kamese.

“Speaking in tongues” is a topic of widespread interest in the Christian church. Many who are not familiar with speaking in tongues are often perplexed, amused, or disturbed when they first witness the phenomenon.

This act is identified by many as the supernatural utterance of  heavenly languages. While addressing believers at Praise Cathedral – Ntinda on Sunday, Dr Godfrey Kamese said when one speaks in tongues, they release encrypted messages to God.

Wikipedia describes encryption as “the process of transforming information using an algorithm to make it unreadable to anyone except those possessing special knowledge, usually referred to as a key.”

Today encryption is widely used on the internet and computers. When you enter your password to log into your bank, computer or email, it is encrypted to protect your interests.

The devil can never understand tongues, Dr Kamese said.

He went ahead to explain that speaking in tongues proceeds from the abundance of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, who He said has senses.

“One of the things God has released for us to be great is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit hears, searches, reminds, directs, teaches and reveals. He is an advocate and helper.” He said, noting that Tongues, being encrypted messages, are a weapon of war.

“For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.” Corinthians 14:2 (NIV).

“No, we speak of the mysterious and hidden wisdom of God, which He destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it.” (1 Corinthians 2:7-8)

Dr Godfrey Kamese also explained two types of Baptism; one by emulsion and that of the Holy Spirit.

He noted that baptism in the Holy Spirit is an empowering for service that takes place in the life of the Christian (Acts 1:5,8). In it we are immersed in the Spirit’s life and power.

“The first kind of baptism is water – and it comes unto repentance. That is biblical baptism and it is important that you are immersed.” Dr Kamese said “From John 11, John the baptist said; I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
