Overcoming low self esteem, stigma and discrimination as a student with albinism can take a lot of organisation and confidence. At Makerere University, 24-year-old Isaac Kyazze has stemmed the tide that comes with being born with this condition to finally graduate with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery.

Kyazze believes humans can plan, but behind their plans is a master planner – and that is God.

He is the one who sees things happen, the fresh graduate has said.

As an aspiring physician, Kyazze hopes to further pursue a Masters degree and specialize in cardiology.

Speaking to the Monitor Newspaper on Wednesday, Kyazze thanked God for the great achievement in life, saying he went through hardships, but always believed that God would make it happen.

“I cannot take it for granted that I have moved this far for the bible says that He has good plans for us. He is the Alpha and Omega. He starts and finishes whatever He pleases to do. I am greatly expectant for the far that He is taking me,” he said.

Isaac Kyazze is the 5th son of Rev George William Kityo and Betty Kityo who have been married 34 solid years now.

He studied at Seeta CU primary school and later joined Kanjjuki Secondary School – Kayunga before enrolling to Makerere University for his bachelor’s degree.

“My teachers would encourage me when I was down, and some of my fellow pupil were welcoming – though some would tend to segregate and discriminate, but the way God is faithful in His way of doing things is that He will always bring something which makes other people get attracted to you,” he said.

“I studied my secondary from a village school where many people were mesmerized by my appearance. Some of them where making fan of it. I have always acknowledged that I have gone through hardships, and have believed in myself, knowing that I can maneuver through somehow. The lord has enabled that to happen,” He continued.

Grateful to parents

“I want to thank my Dad and entire family for standing in the gap. Dad has been supportive even in his career as a Reverend – supportive financial-wise and with moral and spiritual support. He has prayed for us and encouraged us to stand on our ground . I am able to brag that I am a son of a Reverend, because he has been an exemplary dad,” Kyazze said.

The Father, Rev Canon George Willian Kityo speaks out

“The Lord has been so kind to us and we believe He has blessed us so much because of our son,”

“When we got him, because we are servants of God, we had got saved, we accepted the gift He had given us. We received him warmly amidst challenges and many words being uttered by different people. But because we had accepted Christ as our personal savior and Lord, and have a conviction that every gift comes from God, and whatever he gives, is good,”

“If there is anything we have done, it is praying for our son at whatever stage he could reach we have been so prayerful. The most encouraging thing on our side is that he is a prayerful man. When he Got saved, he could go to Sunday school , stand and preach and look at him and wonder. God has natured him very well. He is a powerful man spiritually and it has helped him,”
