Right after court had declared the Busiro South constituency MP seat vacant, Pastor Peter Ssematimba who had been thrown out of Parliament told press reporters that, “Not all is lost…I am filing my appeal at the Court of Appeal. By doing this, I will legally remain the Honorable MP of Busiro South throughout my court appeal process,”

Updates to the case are that Peter Ssematimba has indeed appealed against the court ruling that threw him out of Parliament over academic papers.

His lawyers Muganwa Nanteza and Co Advocates on Tuesday confirmed the appeal, whose implication is that Mr Ssematimba should continue representing the people of Busiro South constituency,”

This, they say, should be until that time when the Court of Appeal makes its verdict on whether High Justice Mugambe was right or wrong in throwing him out of Parliament.

He had won the Busiro South seat February 2016, with 24,153 votes however, Justice Lydia Mugambe of the High Court nullified his victory last Friday, challenged by Democratic Party’s Stephen Ssekigozi, who was one of the losers of the February 18 parliamentary polls.

Daily Monitor sources report that the Court of Appeal now has up to six months to hear and make a decision in this matter according to the amended election rules.
