Liberty Worship Centre Church senior Pastor, Imelda Kula Namutebi has commended government and China’s Sinohydro, contractors for the Karuma power dam for the progress made since the project commencement in December 2013.

This was during her visit to the dam located in Kiryandongo District.

“I salute the government of Uganda and china for taking on this multi-million dollar project so that this nation Uganda is entirely electrified,” she said in a statement issued by the Ministry.

With her team, Pastor Namutebi toured the facility and partly witnessed the significant installation of key components most of which are reportedly bringing the general works closer to completion.

“Nothing drives urban development and industrialization like energy development. May God increase wisdom and provision for our government,” she added.

Late last year, Sinohydro Corporation Ltd vice president, Mr Wang Yantao said the 600MV Karuma power dam is 70 per cent complete in accordance with the budget and time frame.

The government of Uganda is contributing 15 per cent and while China, through Exim Bank, is financing the other 85 per cent component, according to reports.

The project employs more than 5,000 workers including Uganda and Chinese nationals and will due for commissioning in December 2018.

“Once complete, the Karuma Hydroelectric Power Station shall have an installed generation capacity of 600 Megawatts with transmission lines running from Karuma to Kawanda, near Kampala; Karuma to Olwiyo on Pakwach road and Karuma to Lira. As part of the project corporate social foot print, two hospitals and a school are envisaged,” Sinohydro says.
