If you have been around Church for any length of time, you almost certainly have heard the worship song ‘I Can Only Imagine.’

Reports indicate that MercyMe’s hit track is the only Christian song to be certified ‘Double Platinum’ by RIAA. Pretty impressive, right? Well, it doesn’t stop there, as the song is about to become the basis of a Hollywood movie!

The makers of Mom’s Night Out and Woodlawn are turning singer Bart Millard’s life story into a compelling movie.

According to deadline, this movie is set to be released on March 16, 2018.  It is directed by brothers Jon and Andrew Erwin, whose previous credits include hit films such as “October Baby,” “Moms’ Night Out” and “Woodlawn.”

The crossover hit song has, according to reports been the “most played Christian radio single in history.”

“The fan base is certainly there. Millard’s song has topped multiple mainstream and Christian radio charts to become the most played Christian radio single in history, according to Billboard. In fact, I Can Only Imagine became the first Christian song digital download to be certified double platinum and boosted sales of the album, Almost There, to near triple platinum.” A Hollywood reporter remarks.

The Christian Post says members of MercyMe are more than thrilled about the production of the film, and that Millard took to social media to reveal that the project has been in the making for years.

The lyrics were written after the death of Millard’s father. He said he was stunned when both Christian and mainstream stations played the tune. The band believes it was Jesus’ message that really grabbed the public’s attention.

“Word just started getting out. Our label didn’t know what to do with it. How do you even promote this?” Millard recalled during an interview with The Church Boys. “They agreed to send a copy to the stations and say, ‘Play it once and if you don’t get a reaction just throw it out.'”
