Mr Hassan Kasingye, the director of International Police directorate (Interpol) Uganda has confirmed the re-arrest of self proclaimed pentecostal Pastor William Paul Muwanguzi, famously known as “Kiwedde”.

In 2014, Paul Muwanguzi tried twice to escape from Masaka’s main regional prison, where he had been sent to serve a four-year jail sentence on charges of impersonation, but later succeeded when transferred to Mutukula Government prison in Rakai district.

Kiwedde escaped through Tanzania to Zimbabwe where he has been leaving as a fugitive for close to 2 years now.

The greater Masaka Regional Police commander Mr Maxwell Ogwal says that immediately police received him on Wednesday from the Interpol officers at Entebbe, he was transferred to Kalisiizo in Rakai District.

Mr Maxwell has told sources that Muwanguzi will face charges of prison break, impersonation, being in possession of a fake passport, on top of having his earlier prison sentence reviewed.

Mr Hassan Kasingye has credited Uganda’s close relation to Zimbabwe for the successful arrest and repatriation.

Zimbabwe news sources report that the ‘pastor’ was arrested for flouting immigration laws and possessing a fake passport in the names of David Mubiru.

He was picked from the country’s southern state of Waterfalls where he was operating a Holy Fire Ministries Church along with a fellow Ugandan.
