President Uhuru Kenyatta has in his speech to the nation on Friday started by thanking “God who has brought us thus far” and “enabled every single Kenyan to have moved from his or her home and peacefully, stood in cues for many hours to make their choice.”

President Kenyatta says he personally disagrees with the decision of the Supreme Court to nullify his re-election but accepts and respects it.

Kenya’s supreme court on Friday Morning shocked the entire world when it overturned the re-election of incumbent president, Kenyatta, citing irregularities in last month’s election.

A six-judge bench, by majority decision, found that the electoral commission failed to conduct the polls according to the Constitution and Elections Act, Daily Nation reported.

The court has thus called for a new election within 60 days.

“Let us be people of peace… It is God who has made us a people. It is God who has enabled every single Kenyan to have moved from his or her home and peacefully, stood in cues for many hours to make their choice.” Kenyatta said at State House Nairobi.

“It is important for us Kenyans to be respecters of the rule as law. I personally disagree with the ruling that has been made today, but I respect it as much as I disagree with it. Millions of Kenyans stood, made their choice and six (6) people have decided that they will go against the rule of the people despite the fact that you as Kenyans, have decided and elected Jubilee Guvnors, Senators, Women representatives, National Assembly members…” He added.

“Fellow Kenyans, again I say peace. The fault is not yours. Your neighbor remains your neighbor and that is the person most important to you. We are ready to go back to the people with the same agenda, no change… An agenda of unifying our country, building a national party, develop this nation. We are not at war with our brothers and sisters in the opposition because we are all Kenyans.” He stated.

Else where, Foreign envoys in Kenya have termed the Supreme Court’s decision to nullify President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory as “an example for Africa and the world”

Ahead of re-elections, Odinga’s National Super Alliance (Nasa) has declared fresh war on officials of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and wants them out, Daily Nation reports.
