In a public notice dated April 19, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) said it will without further warning start to arrest and prosecute in the Courts of Law among others Christians found preaching the gospel on the streets.

Chairman of the newly created Parliamentary Forum on Ethics and Integrity Mr James Nsaba Buturo, has strongly condemned the ban noting that such a move contradicts the Bible which urges Christians to ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation’ (Mark 16:15)

Buturo, who also doubles as Bufumbira East MP, says that scripture cannot be subjected to man-made regulations, and that this KCCA move is an attack on Christianity in the country

“We do not see where they are deriving their mandate. Jesus Christ was a street preacher so now who are these little fellows? If Jesus was around today, those fellows would stop him,” Buturo said

He urged that KCCA didn’t have the mandate to ban street preachers, adding that the move wasn’t approved by Parliament .

“Uganda cannot turn itself into a godless country that can ban the gospel with ease. By plotting to ban street preaching, KCCA is manifesting into an agent of Satan.” Buturo said, as quoted by URA on Monday.

Buturo said that KCCA should draft a methodology, that would rather regulate the way in which the preachers spread their word, as some of them are seen to go hard on their congregation on taxis.”

KCCA listed street preaching among the increasing cases of unapproved activities in the city that contravene local governments, others being street trading, pasting of posters/banners and mobile advertising screens/loudspeakers.
