Derick Wonder Jr and his mother, Connie Bamwesigye are putting social media to good use in this new era of technology.

How often do you come across a video of a mother with his son holding hands to pray for those watching and listening to them on Facebook. The duo goes ahead and opens the bible to share scripture, addressing issues Christians, especially youth face in life everyday.

They have talked about forgiveness, God’s love and depression. They have advised viewers on how to deal with lust or pornography. They have thoroughly explained what Obedience entails and challenged youth to submit to God for as long as they live.

Their page, “Vessels Of Truth” is a fountain of inspiration at a time by far the most heavily adopted social site, Facebook has 94 percent of social media teens reporting they have a profile there.

Derick Wonder Jr and his mother, Connie Bamwesigye have committed to deliver effective ministry tips and maintain personal interactions through mass media. There videos are shared by viewers and often reach as get as many as a hundred thousand views.

Thank God for social media, Ms Bamwesigye, commonly referred to as mum says, it has become easier for us.

“We always talk to very many people every Wednesday. So many people have listed to us online. We thank God that we are spreading the gospel.” She adds.

Derick Wonder Jr. who doubles as a gospel minister, points out that it is important that the body of Christ understands that technological advancement has created an opportunity for Christians to reach out.

“Like mum said, we speak to people online – live steam – and it has become easier for us.” Derick Wonder says.

When increasing numbers of young people do not attend church but do use social media, then conveying the gospel message via new patterns of communication and in new media forms becomes essential. It is no longer optional for a preachers to ignore social media and new media trends.

As Derick and Ms Connie bring such positive impact to users, social media still has content that continues to pervert the mind of many youth.

“There are people who are abusing social media,” Ms Bamwesigye explains, “It depends on how you use it. If youth you could use it to spread the word of God, it would be so useful. People are out there… The word of God is like  a hummer, it is fire, it crosses mountains and countries. Let us use this effectively and practically in Jesus name.”
