KAMPALA – Preparations are in high gear for the Watoto Children’s Choir jubilee celebration slated for 19th January, 2019 at Watoto Church – Downtown. 

In a special way, the talented Choir will be joined by award-winning Gospel artist, Martin Smith from the UK. 

Smith was the front man of Christian rock and worship band Delirious? known for songs including, ‘I Could Sing of Your Love Forever.’

For the last three decades, the 48-year-old as been penning spirit-filled Christian songs that have become anthems for churches across the UK. His connection and support for the Watoto Children’s Choir dates back to 2008 when he landed in the country to visit the Watoto villages within the capital.

The talented choir serves as ambassadors for Watoto Child Care Ministries, that has been rescuing, restoring and rebuilding orphaned children for 25 years.

In 1995, Martin Smith and his wife were involved in a near-fatal car accident, and during the weeks of his recovery, he decided to become a professional musician. This inspired him to write the song “August 30”.

In 2012 and 2013, Smith independently released four EPs When Delirious? disbanded in 2009. His songs have connected generations, inspired and influenced worship leaders and worshippers alike. 

The father to six children and part of the Bright City worship team at St. Peter’s Church in Brighton, England, Martin continues to write, tour and lead worship.

Attending Watoto’s jubilee celebration is free, and gates open at 6pm.
