David Robert Jones, known as David Bowie, was an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, arranger, painter and an actor.

He was one of the most influential secular musicians and current reports confirm that he died this week beginning of cancer at the age of 69.

A statement was issued on his social media accounts, saying he “died peacefully, surrounded by his family” after an “18-month battle with cancer”.

Tributes have been paid from around the world to the “extraordinary artist” whose last album was released days ago.

A petition has been launched calling on God to bring David Bowie back to life.

Titled ‘Say no to David Bowie dead’, the Change.org petition has amassed more than 4,107 signatures.

Created by Italian Andrea Natella, a statement on the page reads simply: “Letter to God. Say NO to David Bowie dead.”

One supporter posted: “Dear Mr. God, you already have Lemmy, Freddie, Lou, John, Jimi…don’t be greedy and give David back!”

What we are not yet certain of is, how many signatures will God need to answer this petition begun by Andrea Natella?
