Mavuno Church, Kampala has announced that it will be commissioning their new Lead Pastor Michael Obbo Onen and his wife Iyosayi Ekhator Obbo.

With more than seven songs to his name, Michael Obbo Onen, popularly known as Mike-O, is a leading worship musician in Uganda.

He was in the country for his high school but moved to Nigeria for further studies and he started his music career from there.  He returned in 2010 and hosted members of the media and a few of his fans to what he dubbed the Mike-O Media Showcase at Oasis restaurant in Lugogo.

Mavuno Church – Kampala on Sunday issued a statement saying incumbent Pastors, Waweru Njenga and his wife Evie Wareru are set to transition to their next ministry address.

“They have been with us for the last three years,” the statement read. Mavuno Church was founded in 2005 by Nairobi Chapel in Kenya.

In 2010, Mavuno shared it’s strategic plan to plant churches in every major city in Africa. Mavuno Kampala was birthed out of this vision in May 2010 by Pastor Kevin Nderitu, who commited to commute from Nairobi to Kampala every two weeks.

In 2011, Pastor Anthony Njoroge and his family stepped into the role of senior pastor to bring Mavuno Kampala to the next level of church growth.  After 4 years the church had grown to about 700 members and had relocated to Kampala Parents School in order to handle the explosive growth.

In October 2015, Pastor Njoroge and his family handed over the senior leadership role to Pastor Waweru Njenga and his family.

On the same date of ordination, Sunday August 12, 2018 at Mavuno Kampala, there will be a farewell service for Pastor Evie and Pastor Waweru.
