Mandela’s daughter to lay a foundation stone for an innovation centre in Jinja

Zindzi Mandela, the daughter of anti-apartheid activists Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela will on Tuesday lay a foundation stone at a location in Uganda where a Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) is going to be built.

Expected to arrive in the country on January 24th, according to Uganda’s Ambassador to Nordic countries, Zaake Kibedi, Zindzi Mandela will launch the sh200m worth innovation centre facility construction in Masese, Walukuba division in Jinja district.

Zindzi is expected to address Uganda Youth Network, the National Youth Council at Hotel Africana, and also visit a number of top politicians including the President.

Kibedi said the South African politician who additionally serves as her country’s ambassador to Denmark is expected to visit the Mandela National Sports Stadium which was named after her father and, also set eyes on the Uganda Martyrs Shrine at Namugongo during her 5-day visit to Uganda.

She will be the chief guest at the fundraising drive to be organized at Busoga Square in Jinja on January 28th for the construction of the TIC.

These details were revealed during a press conference chaired by Kibedi at Crested Crane Hotel last week.

TIC construction is by Danish Technology Institute (DTI) working in partnership with Busoga Development Link Organization (BDL) and the Uganda Industrial Research Institute.
