MUKONO – Security officials in Mukono district, Uganda have arrested a 31-year-old over allegations that he sodomized a 16 year old boy.

Simon Mpinga, who according to a statement issued by Police on Wednesday, is a pastor affiliated to Living Gospel Church located in Mukono and The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries located in Ntinda,  allegedly sodomised a male member of his flock, and called in his friend to capture a video and still photos of the acts saying “donors would increase his funding.”

Police said the victim decided to open up to his mother who immediately reported the matter at Mukono Police station, under SD REF 38/25/11/2018, noting that he faced the worst form of sexual abuse with multiple effects.

The statement further showed that the suspect (Simon Mpinga) was first arrested in May 2016 SD REF 23/12/05/2016 on sodomy allegations.

“He managed to bribe his way into the victim’s family and the case prematurely closed after expression of no further interest in the case by the victim’s family,” Police said in the statement.

Speaking to UG Christian News on condition of anonymity, one source said before Simon Mpinga was stripped of public duties over alleged gay conduct at their church (name withheld for security reasons),” he was a good singer and led one of the youth choirs.”

“One of the reasons he was told to step down from his position was because of homosexuality allegations reported to the pastor repeatedly. He Took him off leadership,” the source said.

“His father is a popular Man in Seeta because he owns buildings and had many kids. Simon left to stay in Bugolobi and he later got a wife and a child out of wedlock. He opened a church, then early this year decided to go for Holy matrimony with his wife,” the source added.

In March this year, Simon was one of the speakers at an event organised by Tranz Network Uganda Limited, which advocates for human rights, reaches out to transgender persons.

Transgender people are also human beings, the organisation quoted him as saying.

Attempts to secure Simon a bond by some legal officers claiming to be affiliated with Uganda Human Rights Commission on Wednesday were futile and he is currently detained at Mukono Police Station on charges related to sodomy, rape and defilement.

In Uganda, Sodomy is illegal. According to Section 145 (a) of the Penal Code Act, any person who has carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment for life.
