The Inspector General of Police, Edward Kalekezi Kayihura wants ladies in relationships registered, The Observer has reported on Thursday.

The Newspaper says Mr Kayihura made these remarks while addressing residents of Katabi, a town 24 miles from the capital, Kampala.

Mr Kayihura suspects that in a series of unresolved murders in Entebbe, ladies face their fate following suspicions of cheating from their partners.

“Cheating is one of the causes of Wakiso women serial murders,” the police boss is quoted to have said, noting that although he doesn’t know how registration will be done, “it must be done.”

Members of parliament stopped work for two days earlier this month to mount pressure on ministers and police over the unresolved women murders in three districts around Kampala.

Police arrested 44 suspects in Katabi in connection with a spate of killings of children and women. Half of the suspects have been charged in court, including two alleged masterminds but the phenomenon is far from over.

General Kale Kayihura said one suspect confessed to killing eight women. More than 21 women have been killed between May 3 and Sept. 4, Kayihura stated.

Some residents suspect the murder victims are killed elsewhere and the bodies later dumped.
