Past failure often keeps us tied up. It’s so easy to get caught up in wondering about how things will turn out, that we lose sight of getting started.

Judith Babirye, Women’s Representative of Buikwe district was a guest speaker at the mentorship night organised by Uganda Young Women Leaders Network and Century Entrepreneurship Development Agency – CEDA International recently at Uganda Christian University.

She used her speech at this gathering to motivate young leaders into firmness to purpose, with confidence that they have the potential to be greater than their past.

“Your future shall be bigger and brighter if you set out to work hard, hold onto your principles and pursue your set goals. Dare to Dream.  It takes time to be creative. Invest in yourself, the most important thing is to value your time. Act on your dreams with determination and above all always remain humble.” She said.

In relation to the event’s theme, “Emotional Intelligence”, Judith was led to note that unplanned pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and early marriages can be dealt with among youth, female and male.

Following last year’s statistics from the Uganda Demographic and Health Survey (UDHS), they state that 46 percent of girls marry before they reach 18 years. This means that one out of every four girls is most likely to be married off by the age of eighteen.

“Respect and honour your bodies. This will keep you away from unplanned pregnancies, contracting sexually transmitted diseases, early marriages and losing focus of your targets. Use every opportunity well and focus on the goals you set for your education at the university and for life after.” She stated.

She drew examples from her life and urged the youth to be determination if they are to achieve the best out of everything.
