Canaan Gents: Come to the D-day, the entire audience was amazed by the content this group pulled out, unveiling one song after the other.

If you have been on Facebook, twitter, instagram or any other online platform that is social, you must have come across a photo of these five gentlemen (smartly dressed in suits of course).

The Canaan Gents have a vision powerful enough to seek out vocal sounds and looks that turn imagination into reality. I am saying this following what transpired at Watoto Church downtown on Thursday.

Organised by Christian radio station Power 104.1 FM, the gentlemen had next to a month’s time of vocal rehearsals and orientation to diverse sensitive societal issues relevant to any christian singer.

Close to the station’s Creative director Muhumuza Godwin, they were oriented on matters concerned with finances, spiritual growth, music production, protection of one’s brand image, how to handle media matters among other key areas.

The many creative types — established and emerging — who are personally tapped by the Canaan Gents to work with them tend to speak in awe of the 5-year-old singing group.

Marc Tugume (R) lends Samuel Lubwama (L) a helping hand as they prepare back stage for the concert.

Inside the group, you probably won’t hear accusations of creative dictatorship or control freakery.

Come to the D-day, the entire audience was amazed by the content this group pulled out, unveiling one song after the other.

They have a story! Isaac Kawuki, the group’s bass/vocalist emphasized one point, “Ladies and gentlemen, I am normal” He said this following astonishment from the crowd that tried imitating his bass, but could not dare his deep, low vocal range.

Then to the beat boxer Charles Sentongo, he was inspired to practice verbal a cappella instrumentals due to his love for music. He told the audience that he never got to chance to play or exposure to music instruments, thus resorting to making the sounds with his lips.

Both gentlemen emphasized that it takes practice and passion for one to pull off a cappella instrumentals.

Samuel Lubwama, Marc Tugume and of course the new face Samuel Redking have modulated, controlled and pleasant voices to listen to.

It was a historic night for a cappella music in Uganda. For the souls that accepted Christ following the altar call, this gave the concert meaning above everything else.

As Samuel confirmed to Ug Christian News earlier, a lot is in stock. The EP is still on sale with the songs that are already on the market.
