“I’m in service to God, whether Ugandans believe it or not”

If there is anything that will spark a spontaneous debate, if not an outright argument, it is a discussion involving politics—even among believers.

While some argue that the church’s unique, God-given purpose does not lie in political activism, others say it is God’s will that takes precedence over everything and everyone.

First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni was speaking to NTV Uganda when she noted that God’s incomprehensible plan and inviolable will led her into Politics.

Janet said she never thought she would never find herself in politics.

“I even used to say; God is wise He couldn’t possibly send me into politics. Because I believed I was not cut out for politics – but here I am. The fact that I’m here makes my explanation very difficult – I’m in politics, and if I could have my way, I wouldn’t be – believe me.” She said.

Mrs Museveni told NTV Uganda that she tries as much as possible to wait on God to tell her what to do.

Do you regret joining politics, NTV’s Sheila Nduhukire asked her; No, she said; I do not because I know I’m there in service to God. And I know I cannot disobey God no matter what it costs me with the people. I fear God and my life depends on Him.

“I want to share with you something about being obedient to God. This also trains you to speak at the right time when you hear from Him. When you know what God really requires of you at a particular time, you do not assume that you can do anything you want, or you cannot do.” She said.

“I have trained my self to listen from God. I try as much as possible to wait on the Lord. What he tells me is what I do. Last time people were surprised when i said i wasn’t standing as a member of parliament again. I heard from God and got out of parliament. I am here also, because I’m in service to God – whether Ugandans believe it or not – that is what am doing.” She added.

Janet, who was Minister for Karamoja Affairs, says his family has been misunderstood for many things.

“Our family is a family just like yours. I believe we have served this country with dedication, sincerity. We have made lots of sacrifices and we are people who do not just think about our selves first. It is painful when you see what people decide to say. We do our best and pray that God does the rest. Those who appreciate us do – and those that don’t- no matter how much we explain, they will not understand us.” She said.
