humHum Kay is a prolific worship leader, Pastor, musician, songwriter, visual artist, photographer, and recording artist. His music ministry has spanned 10 years and includes work on several albums as an artist.

He has organised a Worship Ministers Summit for worship leaders, worship team members, song writers, musicians and instrumentalists among others, scheduled for 9th July, 2016 at Eden Revival Church Wandegeya.

In an interview with Ug Christian News, Hum discusses the incompleteness of worship pervading today’s churches, and why he believe skill and the anointing must work hand in hand for the looming revival in the body of Christ.

What is the Worship Ministers Summit all about?

The big picture is that about 10 years ago the Lord challenged me to teach the church how to Worship and that’s something I’ve been doing over the last decade through various worship meetings and workshops, in and out of Uganda.

This particular Worship Ministers’ Summit is themed THE SPIRIT AND SOUND OF WORSHIP, seeking to create a balance between the Spirit of worship in relation to John 4:23-24 and the Sound of Worship in terms of the music in the context of Worship

Because most worship leaders learn on job, a lot of these things are not understood; which makes them ineffective.

I believe skill and anointing must work hand in hand and I believe if we’re going to be part of the looming Revival in the body of Christ, we must build effective worship altars.

How does Hum Kay define worship?

I’m writing a second book on it. My first book WORSHIP BEYOND THE SONG will be very helpful to every worshiper who seeks to define worship as opposed to the music that it’s often expressed in.

But as working definition, worship is a state of heart where the Sovereignty, Love and Excellence of God is acknowledged and revered.

I’m working on an entire book breaking down that definition. That will be the third book I’m writing on worship.

What is your comment on the current status of worship specifically for the church in Uganda? Are we inspired to worship by the right motives (relationship with God) or, are we replicating much of what we are seeing on TV just for the sake of modernity.

Like I said, earlier God challenged to teach the church how to Worship. The precedent of that was a realization that there were knowledge gaps in the Worship ministry. Which made and still makes many worship leaders ineffective.

This then accounts for why I’m doing Worship meetings, training workshops and as of now the Worship Ministers Summit.

Here’s a quick litmus test. Randomly ask any worship leaders and worship team members in your circles “What is worship?”

You’ll see how interesting it gets. Or, ask them the difference between a worship ministers and any other music minister.

Ask them the difference between praise and worship. My guess is that you’ll be as shocked as I was at the lack of understanding. It’s very interesting.
