L-R : Raila Odinga, Christina Shusho, Uhuru Kenyatta

Award-winning Tanzania gospel singer Christina Shusho was forced to apologise to Kenyans after her “well-meaning” social media post caused an online uproar.

Shusho posted a prayer for the country headed for repeat polls in which she asked God to guide, protect and give Uhuru Kenyatta wisdom – leaving out Nasa’s Raila Odinga.

Fans called her out moments later, accusing her of, what they termed as “partial prayers” for country’s top leadership. Others fired at her engagement into Kenyan politics and campaigning for Uhuru. She ended up deleting the post.

According to those who faulted the gospel singer, sources say Shusho ought to understand that her Kenyan fans are both in Uhuru and Raila’s camps.

“It was not my intention to hurt you guys,” Shusho said. “Again, I am sorry. Nimalize kwa kusema nina wapenda, na nita endelea kuwaombea. Let love lead.”

Her prayer for Raila moments later was however in vain as NASA supporters christened it a ‘by the way prayer.’

When a local news daily reached out to her, Shusho confirmed her apology but dismissed claims that she was endorsing President Uhuru Kenyatta in her prayer.

“That was just an interpretation by a section of my Kenyan fans. I was praying, quoting words written in the bible, there was no word attributed to my cognition in the prayer. I repeat, I won’t blame my Kenyan fans for faulting me, i fully understand that the engineering period is a highly charged one, all over the world, not only in Kenya,” she stated.

Shusho said based on the rough experience from Kenyans, she has learnt to be more observant of situations before choosing to take action.

In the wake of Thursday’s election re-run, Mr Odinga told media that he is urging his supporters to “stay away” from the election centers and added that they have a right to demonstrate peacefully.

He said from tomorrow, National Super Alliance (NASA) will be transformed into a Resistance Movement

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is seeking a second term, says the ballot must go ahead.
